Great Vision
WHY WE STARTED TRUE NORTH RADIO
When we (Kerilyn Trudel-Houslander and Jay Houslander) launched True North Radio in February 2025, it wasn’t just about creating another radio station—it was about building something that truly belongs to the North. We saw a gap in how our communities were represented, celebrated, and connected through music, sports, and local culture. So we decided to fill that space with something real, something homegrown, and something that sounds like us.
Rooted in Country, Powered by Community
At its heart, True North Radio is a country music station. Why country? Because country music tells stories—the same kind of stories you hear in every small town across the North. Stories of hard work, heartache, family, love, and pride in where you’re from. That’s what our listeners live every day, and that’s what we wanted to celebrate.
Official Home of Local Sports
But True North Radio isn’t just about music. We’re proud to be the official home of Algoma Athletics Basketball and Soccer, the Soo U16/U18 Greyhounds, and local high school and youth sports. These teams are the heartbeat of our community. They represent determination, teamwork, and Northern grit—and we believe they deserve a bigger spotlight.Whether it’s calling the play-by-play on a snowy Friday night, giving shoutouts to rising young athletes, or building hype before the big game, we’re there. Broadcasting games and sharing these moments is our way of supporting the next generation and giving families, fans, and friends a way to stay connected no matter where they are.
Why the North Needs a Voice
In many ways, the North has its own rhythm. We face different challenges and celebrate different wins than larger cities. And too often, Northern voices get left out of the bigger picture. True North Radio was born to change that. We’re here to celebrate what makes this region special—its resilience, its pride, its community spirit. Whether you’re tuning in from the rink, the bush, or the backroads, we want you to feel at home with us.
This station is for the fans, the families, the players, the coaches, the farmers, the small business owners—for you. We’re proud to be Northern, and even prouder to share that pride over the airwaves.Welcome to True North Radio—your station, your stories, your sound.
